Framework for National Reopening

Friday 23, Oct 2020

Australia has a new plan to get to COVID Normal by Christmas, announced today by the Prime Minister after National Cabinet.

ACCI has been calling for an updated roadmap to re-open our nation, after outbreaks in Victoria and decisions by several states to go their own way disrupted the first plan released earlier this year.

We can all be proud that today’s national plan adopts key elements put forward by the ACCI team and our members.  It is a significant influence and advocacy win on behalf of people in business across Australia.

The new plan links for the first time health metrics with the easing of restrictions; and adopts guiding principles underpinning the framework which ACCI has advocated for. It provides a detailed national framework that guides states and territories to act consistently in adopting a proportionate and targeted health response.

If state and territory governments adopt this plan, which we strongly encourage them to do, it should go a long way to providing businesses with desperately needed certainty about the path to easing restrictions.

A copy of the plan is here.
